Important Safety Information

Mattress Alone Purchase

If you are considering the purchase of a mattress “alone,” there are a few things you should be aware of. Please take the time to review this information and consider it seriously before you make the purchase.

First: As of July 1, 2007 all new mattresses or mattress sets offered for sale in the U.S. must meet stringent flammability requirements.

Second: Any mattress labeled as meeting these new flammability requirements and labeled for sale “alone” meets those requirements. If, however, it is paired with an old box spring, or foundation, there is a good chance that the two products together do not offer the flammability protection offered by the new flammability requirements. For this reason, you should consider the purchase of a box spring, or foundation, which has been tested with the mattress you have chosen. Check the label of that mattress and see what foundation(s) that mattress can be paired with. That way you can be sure that your new purchase allows you maximum flammability protection.

Third: If you have a bed that does not require the use of a box spring or foundation – for example, a platform bed or a futon frame, you need not worry about the purchase of a mattress sold “alone.”

Fourth: Please do not mix these products. Check the labels to see that the products - the mattress and the box spring or foundation - may be safely mixed.

In the event that you choose to purchase a new mattress, foundation or box spring “alone” and intend to use it with an older or other mattress, foundation or box spring you should be aware that you are knowingly forfeiting important protection. In that event, neither the manufacturer nor the retailer of the mattress can be held liable for any damages that may result.
