Great Southern Bedrooms began July 1, 1978 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. It was started by two old high school friends with a desire to find and sell the best possible sleep surface available. We began as Great Southern Waterbeds with the "hard sided waterbeds" being the sleep surface of choice. Hard sided waterbeds are the original wood frame type waterbeds. In 1980 we began selling soft-sided waterbeds. During these first few years, we slowly integrated bedroom furniture into our product mix. Each year we would attend trade shows to check out new products and ideas from manufacturers. Networking with other dealers across the country was essential to test marketing and experimenting with these new products.

The simple idea of sleeping on a warm bag of water was an idea that made a lot of sense. Over 80% of the earth is water. Over 80% of our bodies is water. We all come into this earth on a warm sack of water. What more natural supportive sleep surface could there be? Through the years Great Southern hasfine-tuned our product line down to the highest quality flotation sleep products from the world's leading manufacturers. Top quality pillow tops, soft-sided waterbeds, and completely waveless lumbar supported replacement water mattresses top the product line. State of the art adjustable air beds and world class latex foam beds have been added to augment their flotation sleep products. In addition to these sleep surfaces Great Southern has continued to provide their customers with some of the finest select quality bedroom furniture available.

In the 90's, Great Southern Bedrooms has added a complete line of futon sleeper sofas. The finest hardwood frames are combined with top quality futon mattresses.

Mattresses from the mid to late nineties up until today have changed. New better quality spring systems and individual pockeded coil systems have much improved the conventional mattress lines. New latex and memory foam mattresses have become state-of-the-art sleep surfaces for todays informed consumers.
